Fitting in the landscape

Defining together the best landscape integration

Solar parks need to be well integrated into the landscape. Sometimes a solar park fits perfectly into the landscape without much adjustment. Sometimes, for example in the vicinity of residential areas, a solar park needs to be integrated with hedges or greenery in order to hide it from view. Together with our landscape architect, local residents and other interested parties, we will discuss how best to fit the solar park into the existing landscape.

Improving ecological values

The construction of a solar park will create scope for improving the ecological values of the site in comparison with intensive agriculture or cattle breeding. Fencing off the site will create a safe area for (small) animals. Extensive maintenance and the cessation of fertilisation will result in a more impoverished soil with more herbs, insects, etc.

More benefits in a nutshell

Biodiversity

Each solar park will be designed on the basis of a landscape integration plan, in which much attention will be paid to improving biodiversity. The measures to enhance biodiversity will be discussed in detail with the landowner or manager before the project is built. In all our projects, careful consideration is given to how we can make a positive contribution to the living environment of, for example, birds, bats, rabbits, foxes, insects and other animal species. Possibilities for the cultivation of flowers, fruit or herbs are also considered.

Honey from the sun meadow

Our solar parks are an ideal habitat for bees and other insects. A flourishing bee population stimulates the pollination of agricultural land, increasing biodiversity and even the food production of surrounding meadows. We sometimes place beehives for honey production. The honey produced here can be sold in local shops.

Dual use

Dual land use is relatively easy to achieve in solar parks, for example by allowing small livestock and poultry to graze. It is also possible to allow poultry to scratch. This contributes to the diversification of agricultural land. The solar panels are placed at least 70 cm above ground level and safety measures are taken. It is also possible to grow crops or fruit such as berries, blackberries or raspberries between and next to the panels. There are even experiments in which the panels provide shelter for the fruit.
